Craig McMurtry gave an excellent talk on Windows Communication Foundation: Enabling Manageable Systems. In his talk, he indicated that WCF has at least four crown jewels:

• Service model programming model.
• Pluggable software factory architecture
• Claims-based authorization
• Management facilities
